Testing
Periodic exercise testing provides objective feedback about physiological responses to exercise and how those responses
change over time. Exercise programs that incorporate testing are successful because they allow both you and the Exercise
Physiologist to formulate safe and effective training goals. At MBF, exercise testing is an option for participants of any
fitness level. There are two major types of exercise testing that we offer at MBF: Aerobic and Strength
Sub Max Aerobic Testing
With the appropriate pre-participation screening and clearance from a physician when necessary, we can offer sub-maximal
graded exercise tests on either a treadmill or bike. You will be constantly monitored throughout the test by measures of
heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and ratings of perceived exertion. These measures provide the Exercise
Physiologist with information to design appropriate aerobic workloads for safe training. Once workloads for aerobic
exercise program have been established, you can perform your exercise program independently.
After the aerobic exercise test, results are provided to you in narrative and graphical form. Results from one exercise
test serve as a profile of your individual response to exercise. Results comparing multiple tests over time allow for
objective tracking of progress. Upon your request and the appropriate release forms, results from testing can be sent
to physicians and other health-care providers.
Strength Testing
Muscular fitness is an integral portion of total health-related fitness. Muscular strength and endurance refers to the ability
of the muscles to exert force and to continue to perform for successive exertions or many repetitions. Muscular strength can
improve or maintain ones weight, glucose tolerance, and fat-free mass. Testing provides valuable information for setting
reasonable weight-lifting goals and monitoring progression towards those goals over time.
After the strength test, results are provided to you. Again, results from one strength test serve as a profile of your
individual response to exercise. Results comparing multiple tests over time allow for objective tracking of progress
We suggest testing every 4-8 weeks to track your individual progress.
